Retrofits & Upgrades
Edson Case Packers are well known for their long life, high reliability and ease of operation. As we introduce our new packaging machines with even higher case & tray packing performance, we also design these enhanced automation modules with your existing machines in mind, so that you can extend the life and performance of your current Edson Case Packer System.
Below are links to data sheets we have developed to guide you through the various options available to you for retrofitting, upgrading, repairing and rebuilding your older Edson machinery.
Pivoting Chute Gate Retrofit Assembly
Edson Horizontal Case Packers (models 1600 / 3000/ 3100 / 3200)
The NEW Pivoting Chute Gate assembly is designed to enhance case packing reliability of Edson’s horizontal case packers originally equipped with complex adjustable chutes, and flap control elements. These awkward assemblies are easily replaced by eliminating other adjustable assemblies, often located in awkward positions.
Features & Benefits of the Pivoting Chute Gate Assembly
Eliminates 2 powered assemblies, that require awkward adjustment (Tucker B; Pop Up Leading Flap Guide)
Eliminates the 3 dim'n chute and reduces Change Parts
Dual Pivoting Gates provide positive case & flap control
Reliably stabilizes the case at the packing station
Robust design & construction
Convenient adjustment for new case sizes
Easily to Retrofit to Edson 1600 / 3000 / 3100 / 3200)

KDF Pinch Roller - Auxiliary Magazine
The KDF Pinch Roller is a pneumatic device that creates additional drive pressure on the Auxiliary Magazine's Feeder Rolls. This is often useful when operating the Aux Mag above 8 cpm, or with very large KDFs, in order to keep them aligned during feeding into the Primary KDF Magazine.
The Pinch Roller Assembly can be easily installed on existing Aux Mags, and it comes complete with the additional PLC programming upgrade, as well as the pneumatic valve and field piping material. Delivery is usually within 2 - 3 weeks from order. Installation is estimated to be 2 - 4 hours.

Low Mass Linear Rail Case Dispenser - for older 3000 & 3100 Case Opener-Sealers
If you are contemplating higher packing speeds, Edson offers a complete retrofit assembly, customized for your Edson 3000 or 3100. The Linear Rail Dispenser is a bolt-on replacement for your existing case dispenser and allows your 3000 / 3100 to continuously operate up to 12 + cpm. The Low Mass Dispenser is smoother, faster and lighter than the old cam roller or slider rail dispensers, and uses significantly less energy. The Linear Rail Dispenser comes available with the Pop Up Leading Flap Guide, which also improves your line's uptime and is also easier to adjust for different cases.
The Low Mass Linear Rail Dispenser is available in both pneumatic and servo powered designs, for even quieter, smoother operation and less energy consumption.

Pop Up Leading Flap Guide Assembly
The PULFG is an assembly dispenser mounted, adjustable assembly that provides improved case control, as the erected case moves from the Erecting station to the Packing Station. Its primary function is to hold the leading flap open with a small tooled cylinder, while the case moves into position at the Packing Chute on all Edson 3000s & 3100s before 1998.
The Flap Guide adjusts for both case depth & length, and uses tool-less ratchet handles for these adjustments to make it a tool less changeover.

Inside Case Former - 3000 & 3100 Dispensers
The Inside Case Former is a rugged mechanical powered assembly that replaces the Pop Up Pin style erector. The Inside Case Former provides opening of the case, and is compliant enough that it can even open KDFs that may be overglued, or dimensionally off-spec.
The ICF Assembly also includes the ancillary devices which holds the KDF in place while the case is being erected and the related control devices. The Inside Case Former takes approximately 1 - 2 hours to mount.

Top Flap Opener-Closer
The Top Flap Opener-Closer is an adjustable assembly that positively opens & closes the case's top major flap to allow for the tucking of rear minor flaps, thus providing reliable case transfer during the packing process. The Top Flap Opener-Closer is adjustable for the case depth, and includes a digital counter for fast & repeatable set up.
This assembly replaces the older style of flap opener, which did not provide the positive action of this new assembly. Installation time is 2 - 4 hours and it includes the field hardware and PLC program to integrate this easily onto all existing Edson 3000 & 3100 Opener-Sealer machines.

Rotary Actuator Flap Tucker
The new Rotary Actuator powered Flap Tucker is a modular assembly that mounts directly into the adjustment slide of the existing cylinder powered Flap Tucker. It provides smoother operation, higher reliability and greater adjustment that the older design, and has no backlash compared to the older design. If your existing flap tuckers are worn, or you intend to increase the speed of your Edson 3000 or 3100, then these modular tucker assemblies should be considered.
The Rotary Flap Tucker assembly comes complete with all sensors, field piping, flow controls, and mounting clamp for use with your existing tucker tool.
